I just arrived in London for a few days before the World Travel Market conference and tomorrow I will be co-hosting a full day of tours (2 half day tours) in collaboration with Women in Travel CIC.
You can still grab the last spot here, especially if you are keen to escape the Halloween craziness that seems to have taken over London ;)
Morning tours: Ethiopian food, coffee and culture followed by Arabian coffee (yes, we will see who did it best ;) then music and belly dancing!
Afternoon tours: We will start with Arabian coffee, music and belly dancing and continue with a tour that brings the British Empire on a plate and traces back the centuries of history of what we consider British food today telling you all about the migration and colonialism that brought it to the British Isles while we sample it all.
And if you have not listened to this week's podcast episode I highly recommend you do because it is a hopeful, optimistic and candid look at the challenges and joys of traveling in a wheelchair and / or with disabilities.
Now, on to this week's travel tip: The first batch of 2027 predictions and recommendations for travel from Nat Geo and the Lonely Planet sprinkled with the forecast from Booking.com and Expedia.
The places to visit in 2027
Every year, most travel publications and experts will release their lists of the places to visit. These are usually places that have something special going on in the year or that are becoming popular.
The Lonely Planet and National Geographic have already releases their lists and there is almost no overlap.
There is also little overlap between these two, after all, they are sampling travelers in different geographies and target different types of customers so it is to be expected that they predict different trends.
More lists will come up soon including Conde Nast's, Travel & Leisure, CNN's and The New York Times, which is my favorite.
On my end, I am watching a few destinations:
Kyrgyzstan is absolutely experiencing a boom
Uzbekistan is already on a growing path with dozens of new 4-5* hotels opening up, new roads, new train routes, new districts, new museums...it is not new but it is consolidating
Vietnam has been on the cusp for the last 2-3 years but its popularity is not slowing down
The solar eclipse is accelerating Egypt's growth as a top destination. Between the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum and the works happening in Luxor to welcome the longest eclipse of the century and of our lifetimes, summer in the steaming hot country has never been so appealing. Plus, they are the headline sponsor of the conference I am attending and have come to London to show off big. Tourism has never looked so good on the Egyptian history, heritage and the Egyptian people, always hospitable and fun to be with
Morocco continues its exponential growth that put it at the center of the African continent's tourism expansion. The 2028 World Cup in football that will be co-hosted by Morocco, Spain and Portugal will no doubt add to the excitement but I really see it enjoying a wave of love. I will be there in just over a week joining our group tour there and I am excited to see how it has changed in the last 3 years since I last visited.
Sri Lanka is quietly making a come back after a few unstable and turbulent years and it is a destination I am looking out for. I hope we can launch tours there in the next couple of years because it is a country I love and have visited multiple times. Plus who doesn't like their hoppers (appa) they are sooooo delicious, I ate them everyday while there. Which reminds me, I should look for a good Sri Lankan in London, I bet there is one!
